Stop Sucking In The Belly!
So this is a big mistake that I see a lot of people doing and I get it because I used to do it all the time.
We’ve been taught we need to look skinny and we need to suck in our stomach.
You’re sitting there at a cocktail party or surrounded by people and you’re sucking in your stomach.
You’re really uncomfortable and like it’s cutting off your breath.
So that word suck in, is horrible because sucking implies that you’re sucking in and stopping your breath.
So let go of the sucking in your belly and just try relaxing your belly instead.
Maybe you’ve never actually done this before so let’s do it now.
You can place your hand on your belly if that’s comfortable for you or you can just bring your conscious awareness on to your belly and just take a slow deep breath.
Allow it to completely expand and then slowly exhale.
Just allow it to slowly exhale back out. Now that is a relaxing comfortable breath.
So an action step to get a flat belly is the more breath you have, the faster your metabolism is going to be, you’re going to have more oxygen for your cells and your cells need oxygen, right?
I mean you need to be healthy.
When Your Metabolism Speeds Up, You Drop Belly Fat
Breathing deeper, allowing your metabolism to speed up as you take deeper breaths and then this also stops the constriction around your abdomen and your internal organs and think about if you’re stopping, if you’re all tight and constricted right there, that means you’re not going to be able to digest your food very well, right.
So stop sucking it in and an action step would be take one deep relaxing breath every day.

Hi Andrea, once again I completely agree with you. For healthy cellular functions, oxygen is what is required and sucking the belly in starves the cells of oxygen by reducing the volume of oxygen entering our lungs. What you say makes a lot of sense to me. I believed that sucking my belly in will improve the muscle tone of my belly muscles and I have been doing that for sometimes when I am sitting by the desk and working on my computer. Fortunately I have not been doing that when I am at parties and working with other people. If I did, it would have made me feel tensed and I wouldn’t have been able to relax and just be myself.
Thanks for making clear that sucking in the belly does not help to burn belly fat. I will never do that again.

Hello Andrea, I am 71, and I actually do a fair bit of meditation exercises involving using my breath. I tend to put on belly fat because I’m diabetic, and controlling it only through diet and exercise, and if I miss out on the exercise, (which I have recently because I haven’t been able to walk in the weeks of ice and snow) or eat sugar and the wrong fats, it comes back to my middle. I don’t go to the gym any more (where I first lost three and a half stone two years ago when I discovered my diabetes), because I kept catching staph infections there. I loved this video, and thank you…it made me feel totally trusting of you and the good work you are doing. Bless you for it. I look forward to the next videos.

I was never able to suck my belly beacause it always felt uncomfortable. My family and freinds kept reminding me to do it and blaming me if I failed to do it properly all the time which makes me always feel guilty for not doing it. After watching your video I feel so much better and I don’t feel guilty any more. I also used to ask my daughter to do it who is 5 because I wanted her to get used to it from an early age unlike me. but now I called her and aksed her to watch your video and she is much happier now.

Hello Andrea! Very interesting tip! In fact, I begin my every day with 5 minutes of deap breaths in order to face the difficult day ahead, and I never knew that this might help against the belly fat as well! I don’t use to suck my belly, but recently I have heard that sucking-and-letting go-sucking-letting etc.. the belly (I don’t know how to describe it in English, I hope you understand what I mean), is very good exercise for abdominal muscles. Especially for people who haven’t enough time to go to the gym, this is a good alternative. So, I started trying to do it. I would very much like to have your opinion on this.

Andrea: my very special problem with sugar is I love it. It is hard for me to stop when I start and I definitely think I have to learn to live sugar free. And I want to do it. I want to live sugar free and feeling good about it,not stressed at all. And I want to be lean. Sugar doesn’t help at all because I know it is not only in my belly where the fat goes, is to the rest of the body too. You can answer me writing! Thanks. You are awesome.
