Not too long ago, the New England Journal of Medicine published an article about a nasty little protein called neuropeptide Y.
Did I say “nasty”? This little sucker is worse than “nasty,” it’s the mortal enemy of anyone trying to lose weight and burn (rather than store) more fat.
You see, neuropeptide Y (NPY for short), kicks in whenever you’re under stress (even a little bit of stress), and tells your body to make more fat, and store more fat. That’s right…
If you worry about losing weight, your body tries to make you fatter.
Some scientists say that this NPY has been in our DNA from way back to caveman times–probably having to do with our built in genetic survival mechanisms.
Of course just knowing about it doesn’t help us much, does it?

Well, it turns out that meditation is the best way to reduce stress and turn off that nasty little NPY. But traditional meditation is hard to learn (to do right), and takes years of practice to generate meaningful results.
