Have you ever wondered why junk food tastes so
good?
I mean, what exactly are they doing to those
foods to make them have such strong colors,
flavors, and smells?...
AND WHY ARE THEY SO ADDICTIVE?
If you've never asked yourself these questions,
don't worry - I don't blame you.
It's much easier to just stick our heads in
the sand and not pay attention to the ingredients
of our favorite foods.
I know, I did it for most of my life.
I didn't WANT to know what was in those fast
food fries that made them so crispy, or what made
my favorite candy that day-glo hot pink color.
Sure, I knew that they weren't good for me.
And as far as I was concerned, that was ALL
that I needed to know. They're not good for me
and I'm eating them anyway.
Until...
I got serious about losing weight and I
tried to STOP eating them.
Have you ever tried to be in the same room
with a box of fries from a fast food restaurant,
and NOT eaten one?
It's close to impossible.
Have you ever tried to sit next to your friend
who is eating your favorite candy in the movie
theatre, and NOT grab a handful for yourself?
Probably never.
My addiction to junk food was one of the
biggest obstacles I had to overcome when I got
serious about losing weight.
So let me ask you a question...
Are you serious about losing weight -- for
real this time -- I mean losing weight, getting
fit and NEVER having the fat come back?
If you answered 'Yes', then you can go ahead
and scream out "Hallaluyah!" Because you're in
the right place.
I'm going to be real with you like no one
has ever been real with you before.
You deserve the truth.
I wish someone would have told me the truth
back when I was struggling to lose weight and get
fit - It would have saved me years of hating
myself and feeling like a failure.
I knew that in order to lose weight, I had to
stop eating all that really bad food that was
making me fat.
I would PROMISE myself, "Okay, this is it.
NO MORE FRENCH FRIES."
But as soon as I got within range of a fast
food restaurant where I could smell those hot,
salty, deep-fried treats...
I would cave in and eat them.
And then I would feel guilty and disgusted
with myself.
I would tell myself, "I don't have any
will-power. I'm such a weak loser."
I mean, why couldn't I just stick to my
promise and not eat french fries?
I thought that the problem was the french
fries and that I didn't have enough will-power
to resist them. I blamed myself.
Boy was I wrong.
If I would have known WHY I could never break
my addiction to fast food and candy...
That it wasn't because of my lack of willpower,
OR anything that I was doing wrong...
But it was the man-made chemicals that they
put in processed foods that actually MAKE you
addicted to them...
I would have been able to break FREE much
sooner than I did.
But I had to learn by trial and error, with
a lot of set-backs, start-overs, and defeats.
I'm hoping that I can save you a few of those
disappointments and get you quickly on the path
of losing weight.
>> KNOWLEDGE = POWER <<
And the first thing you should know is that
there are chemicals in fast food and junk food
that are HIGHLY addictive.
That's why I could never quit no matter how
determined I was and no matter how badly I
wanted to.
What I thought was an external problem - a
problem outside of myself (the french fries)
- was actually INSIDE of me.
These man-made chemicals had taken over my
brain.
And they were wreaking havoc on my body
chemistry...
Making me store fat and gain weight.
LOTS of weight.
Once I realized what I was up against, I set
out to learn everything I could about these
man-made, addictive chemicals.
I was determined to figure out a way to BEAT
them and to STOP the negative effects they were
having on me.
Okay, are you ready for some good news?
I DID IT!
I figured out a way to overcome an addiction
to junk food - no matter how serious it is.
And here's some even better news...
IT WILL WORK FOR YOU TOO.
The first step to breaking free of these
man-made chemicals is to understand WHY they are
so addictive.
What are these chemicals doing to your body
chemistry?
Why does your body seem to crave them ALL the
time?
Let's talk about what junk food is and what it
is NOT...
Junk food is a problem in our diet mainly
because it fools your senses.
It is nutrition in disguise.
It's food, in that it fills you up, but it's
NOT proper nutrition.
It's NOT supplying the vital elements that
your body needs to function at it's optimum level.
Junk food is kinda like the styrofoam fillers
that they put in packages to protect them - it
takes up space and it fills you up...
but it's DEAD.
It's not alive.
Imagine how you feel when you order something
online that you're really excited about?
Let's say... it's a new pair of shoes.
When the box arrives, you tear into it and
find it stuffed full of that packaging.
What do you do?
You throw all that packaging over your
shoulder and onto the floor... eager to get
to the good stuff - the shoes.
What you WANT is the shoes, not the filler.
Well, your brain is working the same way.
Imagine how disappointed you would be if you
dug through all that styrofoam and bubble wrap
only to find...
There are no shoes.
AGH! Can you imagine the frustration?!
Well, that's the frustration your body feels
EVERY time you eat junk food.
When you eat potato chips, your brain starts
digging though the chemicals...
Looking for some kind of vitamin that it
needs...
AND IT'S NOT FINDING IT!
It's as if you ordered a new pair of shoes
over the internet, and all they send you is a
box full of styrofoam fillers and bubble wrap!
And then you say, "Send me another one".
So another box arrives filled with only
fillers and packaging...
And then you order ANOTHER ONE.
Do you see the insanity?
It's like you've signed up for the 'automatic
delivery' of empty shoe boxes full of styrofoam
and plastic bubble wrap packaging.
If you keep feeding your body junk food, your
body will continue to search for vitamins that
aren't there... and your body will continue to
feel frustrated.
And so it keeps sending out hunger signals
to eat more, hoping for those vitamins and
essential nutrients.
Living in a body that is frustrated and not
satisfied is living with a feeling of torture.
If you are depriving your body, you are
torturing your body.
You may no longer feel it, because like all
forms of torture, the body adapts and grows numb...
But your body is crying out for nutrition.
Eating junk food and depriving your body of the
vitamins and nutrients that it needs, is like eating
the styrofaom fillers that only take up space but
provide no other value...
Do you just want food to take up space?
Or do you want it to WORK for you?
Give you ENERGY...
REPAIR your cells so you look younger...
SATISFY you so you don't have painful cravings?
The RIGHT foods can do all this and more.
Junk food is full of unnatural chemicals
that were not meant for human consumption.
When you consume foods that are mostly made
of man-made chemicals (or even have a significant
amount of these chemicals) it fools your body into
THINKING that you are full and satisfied...
but really you are starving.
And then you wonder why you can't resist those
doritos or chocolate bars...
Wake up girl!
You're starving to death!
Your body is sending you a VERY strong signal...
EAT! EAT NOW, YOU'RE STARVING!
And that's why you're constantly reaching for
a bag of chips or a chocolate bar, and you feel
like you're out of control...
Well, yeah. Your body is starving.
And so you just keep stuffing more and more
styrofoam inside of you.
You think you're full but you're actually
devoid of any nutrition.
Now, you may be saying to yourself,
"How can this be? After I eat a bag of chips,
or a box of cookies, I feel like I'm full...
sometimes painfully full."
I know this feeling all too well.
You're talking to a girl that used to eat
Fruity Pebbles for dinner.
I would eat 3 bowls, sometimes 4 and would
definitely FEEl stuffed after I finished.
But then within an hour or so, I wanted to
eat more crap again... except next I wanted
something salty.
See, you're not starving as in you're 'on the
verge of death' starving...
In fact, you may not even feel it until a few
hours later because you just ate...
But for some reason you start getting cravings
to eat again very quickly afterwards. Even if
your belly is full, you kinda want to stuff your
face with more crap.
Now part of that is because your brain has a
system where it can tell when it's full based on
how high your blood sugar is and how full your
belly is...
But there's another thing going on in your
brain that is sensing that your body is missing
certain essential micro-nutrients.
(Because remember -- junk food is like styrofoam
and it doesn't have any of these all-important
micro-nutrients.)
And when it's missing those nutrients, it's
only way to get them is to send the hunger signal...
to push the 'FEED ME' button over and over
again and hope that in the next meal it will
get whatever element it is that it needs for
some critical metabolic function.
Something in your brain, some chemical
receptor is looking for this element, and it
can't find it... so it just keeps pushing that
button.
It will continue to send this 'FEED ME' signal
until it is satisfied.
And I promise you, you won't find this missing
element in a Twinkie. Or a hundred Twinkies.
>> MAKING JUNK OUT OF FOOD <<
It used to be that the food we ate came
directly from the earth.
Our bodies, minds, and spirits still respond
best to food that has not been messed with by
humans.
That's why I recommend eating an all-natural
diet as often as possible. Mother nature is still
the best source for getting optimal nutrition and
losing weight.
So what are they doing to food that makes it
so bad for our bodies?
Why does junk food make us so fat?
The technical name for junk food is
'high-processed food'.
And if you're like me, no one in my family or
my friends growing up ever knew the damage that
these 'high-processed foods' were causing us.
In fact, it wasn't until I went out and started
searching for answers and studying fit, healthy
women and their eating habits that I began to
understand how dangerous these 'high-processed
foods' are to the human body.
Let me explain...
These chemicals in junk food are made in
laboratories.
Nature makes chemicals too.
Lettuce is made out of chemicals, it's just
good chemicals.
Right?
Now, when I'm talking about high processed foods,
we are talking about something made in a laboratory
like high-fructose corn syrup.
When people think of chemicals, they usually
think of those weird preservatives and additives -
that stuff they put into food to make it last
longer, taste better, etc.
And, yes, I am definitely talking about those
chemicals too.
But not only am I talking about these additives,
but I'm also talking about the food itself.
The word that our parents used to use...
and one that most of us have probably heard is
"empty calories".
What's an empty calorie?
Well, it's calories all right.
But it's empty of any nutritional value other
than the calorie itself.
And that's why your brain keeps hitting that
hunger button.
For example...
Bleached, enriched white flour.
Guess what?
That's not wheat.
It has been processed to the point where it's
now a chemical.
In it's natural form, as wheat, your body can
break it down and use the protein and fiber to
repair cells, grow muscle, and do lots of other
great amazing things that it needs to do to
sustain LIFE.
But as a chemical... IT CAN'T DO ANYTHING
but supply calories.
It rushes into your system, fills you up,
spikes your blood sugar and insulin level, causes
your body to store fat... and then it leaves.
Wham, bam, thank you ma'am.
No vitamins, no minerals, no nutrition.
An empty calorie.
There's a book called "Fast Food Nation" that
rocked my world when I read it.
Obviously, I'm not the only one it had a
strong impact on because it also helped inspire the
2004 documentary "Super Size Me".
If you haven't seen "Super Size Me" go out and
rent it TODAY. It will change the way you
look at fast food.
This documentary had a huge impact because it
revealed what McDonald's is really putting in their
fast food meals...
And it eventually lead to McDonald's adding
so-called 'healthy' items onto their menu.
Now if you're going to McDonald's for your
'health' food then, girlfriend, we gotta talk...
but that's another newsletter for another
day...
Back to the book "Fast Food Nation"...
This book brought public awareness to what
goes into all these foods that are being
manufactured by the fast food industry.
Before a woman, just like you, ends up eating
the hamburger, or french fry, or strawberry
shake from a fast food restaurant...
That food has gone through some CRAZY
transformations.
That's why they call it high-processed foods.
By the time it reaches your hands and goes into
your mouth it is more like Frankenstein than food.
It has been broken down and altered through
the food processing system to become more like a
chemical concoction in a science laboratory than
nutrition for your growing and living cells.
No wonder your body can't do anything with it.
These chemicals are fooling you into thinking
that they are food.
There are scientists called "flavorists,"
and their job is to create these chemicals that
fool your sense of sight, smell and taste.
Can you believe there's actually a name for
these scientists?
I'll bet you've probably never even heard of a
flavorist.... but you've definitely consumed
their creations.
They are some of the most brilliant minds in
the world getting paid big bucks...
They've graduated from the top universities...
And they were recruited by companies that spend
billions and billions of dollars researching
the human tastes.
These scientists are not chefs that got their
degree from culinary school...
No, no, no...
They got their degree in Organic Chemistry
from some top university.
They are dissecting the human taste buds and
creating chemicals and scientific ways to process
foods to fool you into eating crap that you would
never WANT to eat if you could tell what it
REALLY was...
We are their laboratory mice.
And they are beating us because we are
uneducated and we are just sucking it up and buying
what they are selling us without any consideration.
Eric Schlosser says in his book 'Fast Food
Nation':
"Open your refrigerator, your freezer, your
kitchen cupboards, and look at the labels on your
food. You'll find "natural flavor" or "artificial
flavor" in just about every list of ingredients.
Both are man-made additives that give most
processed food most of its taste.
About 90 percent of the money that Americans
spend on food is used to buy processed food.
But the canning, freezing, and dehydrating
techniques used to process food destroy most of
its flavor.
Since the end of World War II, a vast industry
has arisen in the United States to make processed
food palatable.
Without this flavor industry, today's fast food
industry could not exist."
In other words...
YOU WOULDN'T EAT THIS CRAP IF THEY DIDN'T ADD
ALL THE CHEMICALS TO MAKE IT LOOK, SMELL, AND
TASTE GOOD.
Your body knows the difference once it is
inside of you...
It KNOWS that it's not really food.
And it's trying to tell you.
That's WHY you're never satisfied...
that's WHY you always have cravings...
that's WHY you can't lose weight.
Thank God for people like Eric Schlosser who
write books to inform the public about what they
are really eating.
Now you can consider yourself part of that
'informed' group.
That is a blessing.
So now, you're probably saying, "Okay, I know
that this is crap, but how do I stop eating it?"
